Over 400 Attend Foundations Annual Seminar on Autism/Asperger's Syndrome Doylestown, PA (May 2, 2006) – World-renowned Australian psychologist Tony Attwood, Ph.D., author of the best-selling book, Asperger’s Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals spoke to a crowd of over 400 educators and mental health professionals at Foundations Behavioral Health’s annual conference on Weds., April 26, 2006 at the Radisson Hotel in Trevose, PA. During his presentation, Dr. Attwood explained the difficulties faced in adolescence, emotion management and how negatives can be turned into positives in both the lives of the individuals and their caregivers. “As teenagers go through each day, there will be times when they feel sad, anxious, confused or frustrated,” said Dr. Attwood. “There are also times when they feel confident, calm and in control. The art and science of emotion management is learning to draw upon positive emotions and strategies to keep moving through the tough times. “Working with autistic children and adolescents can be very challenging for mental health professionals and educators,” said Ron Bernstein, president and CEO, Foundations Behavioral Health. “Dr. Attwood lent his expertise in helping us understand the social skill challenges faced by individuals on the autistic spectrum.” Dr. Attwood is a practicing clinical psychologist at MacGregor Specialist Center in Australia, with 30 years of experience in the field of Asperger's Syndrome.
