Compassionate Care
in the Community
Foundations Behavioral Health provides a full continuum of
behavioral health services to children, adolescents and their
families. An important component of that continuum is our
In-Home and Community-Based Services, also known as BHRS services.
This program helps families with their emotional problems
in their homes or neighborhood locations, by reaching out
to them and providing child-centered and family-focused treatment
interventions in the home environment.
Who Can Benefit From Treatment
The goal of BHRS Services is to provide compassionate care to children and
adolescents with severe emotional disorders and to those who are at risk
of developing a behavioral health problem. Treatment takes place in the home
and/or the community, which is the most natural and least restrictive environment.
The BHRS Program at Foundations Behavioral Health offers intensive, individualized
care to children and adolescents suffering from a variety of emotional problems,
including depression, anger, anxiety, and other common behavioral health
concerns. BHRS Services can be particularly helpful to families who need
professional help with their child’s emotional problem.
Individualized Strength-Based Approach
Foundation’s BHRS Services are based on Pennsylvania’s Child and
Adolescent Service System Program (CASSP principles.) Services are planned
to meet the individual needs of the child, rather than trying to fit the child
into an existing service. Treatment is developmentally appropriate and builds
on the strengths of the child to meet his or her emotional, social and physical
needs.
The family is invited to participate in treatment
as a full partner in all stages of decision-making and treatment
planning, including implementation,
monitoring and evaluation. A child’s family may include biological, adoptive
and foster parents, siblings, grandparents, and other relatives, as well as
other adults who are committed to the child’s welfare. The family collaborates
with the treatment team in developing a treatment plan and to identify the
necessary resources to implement the plan. The team provides appropriate support
to the child and family, and evaluates the child’s progress on an ongoing
basis.
Integrating Culture and Community Resources
The natural strengths and available resources of the child’s family and
community are incorporated into the treatment plan. Services are generally
provided in the child’s home, drawing on formal and informal resources
to promote the child’s successful return to productive living. The treatment
team often draws upon community resources, such as mental health professionals
and provider agencies, as well as social, religious, and cultural organizations.
Culture determines our world view and provides a general design for living.
Our treatment professionals recognize and respect the behavior, ideas, attitudes,
values, beliefs, customs, language, rituals, ceremonies, and practices in today’s
multicultural environment.
