ACUTE INPATIENT HOSPITAL CARE

Who Can Benefit From Acute Inpatient Care
Foundations Behavioral Health is Bucks County’s only private, freestanding psychiatric hospital. Adolescents eligible for admission to the Adolescent Acute Inpatient Treatment Program at Foundations Behavioral Health have a diagnosable psychiatric disorder which results in symptoms requiring an acute treatment setting. Those who can benefit from the Acute Inpatient Treatment Program include adolescents who are at risk of suicide, exhibiting out-of-control behavior or suffering from a psychiatric condition that requires hospitalization while medication is initiated or changed. Individuals displaying behavior which prevents treatment in a less restrictive setting, and those who need medication stabilization due to an eating disorder or drug toxicity can also benefit.

The Acute Inpatient Treatment Program provides intervention and stabilization during a brief inpatient stay to allow the patient to make a rapid transition to less restrictive levels of care. It addresses a variety of emotional and psychological problems which interfere with successful functioning at home, at school or in the community. Conditions such as depression, behavior problems, severe anxiety, suicidal behavior, mood disorders, and eating disorders are treated within the hospital’s therapeutic milieu.

Assessments Conducted by a Team of Specialists
Our goal is to quickly gather the clinical information necessary to evaluate the adolescent and develop a plan that shapes the course of treatment. We conduct a comprehensive evaluation to accurately assess psychiatric, medical and psychosocial conditions. The multidisciplinary team integrates medical and biological testing, structured interviews, neuropsychological tests and family assessments into an individualized treatment plan.

Led by a board-certified psychiatrist, the multidisciplinary team is comprised of the program director, nurse, therapist, case manager and educational staff. This team approach is extremely helpful for the patient because it attempts to assure that no area is overlooked. Additionally, it permits the team to treat the patient from a number of complimentary perspectives.

The program’s treatment modalities include group, individual and family therapy, psychoeducation, and psychopharmacology. Our highly experienced staff employs a range of medical and psychosocial treatment modalities in an atmosphere dedicated to recovery. We encourage patients to participate in the therapeutic process and return to healthy functioning as soon as possible.
